Venue Metro roomLobby, Ascent2 Science Park DriveSingapore 118222 Synopsis Modelling and Analytics in Population Health The population health modelling group within SSHSPH has developed an individual based simulation model that can represent each individual in the resident population over their lifetime and track theirs, and the population’s, aging and onset of chronic diseases like diabetes. This individual based framework allows complex dynamics of risk factors and diseases to be accounted for and in silica trials of programmes to reduce this impact, serving as a virtual test bed for campaigns in the war on diabetes. Computational models are helpful to investigate the spread of infectious diseases in human populations too. Incorporating spatial data in these models allows us to study the geographical-related exposures for vector-borne diseases such as Zika and Dengue. Speakers - Associate Professor Alex Cook leads the modelling group in the Biostatistics and Modelling Domain in the Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health. He obtained his PhD in statistics and mathematical modelling at Heriot-Watt University. Subsequently, he worked as a postdoctoral fellow in the Gibson and Gilligan labs at Heriot-Watt and Cambridge, respectively. Associate Prof Cook is best known for his research in computational statistics and modelling in the fields of infectious disease epidemiology, public health and the environment. - Kiesha Prem is a Research Assistant at the Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health, where she does modelling work with the Biostatistics and Modelling Domain. She trained at the Department of Statistics at the National University of Singapore where she obtained her BSc. (Hons) in Statistics. Currently, Kiesha is a PhD candidate with Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health. Her research interests is in infectious disease modelling using Bayesian statistics.
Tech Talk is a series of fireside chats hosted by General Assembly featuring technical leads of startups and corporates.

This session, we're hosting a fireside chat with Bradley Priest, Co-Founder and CTO of TradeGecko.

About Bradley Priest

Bradley is the CTO and Co-Founder of TradeGecko. When he's not writing immense walls of code he's writing immense walls of code.

Bradley was the kid that was always pulling things apart and (sometimes) putting them back together again. After studying psychology and medicine, and realising neither floated his boat, Bradley found his calling in the world of technology.

Quite obviously a natural, starting TradeGecko was his chance to utilize all of his technical and creative skills, building market-leading software from the ground up. He now leads an ever growing team of talented developers and designers helping drive the shared mission of creating the effortless inventory and order management platform that the world transacts upon.

About TradeGecko

TradeGecko was founded in February 2012, by three entrepreneurs from New Zealand – brothers Cameron and Bradley Priest along with Carl Thompson. The founders saw an opportunity in Southeast Asia and moved to Singapore to be incubated by technology accelerator, JFDI. Previously running businesses ranging from retail apparel to web design, TradeGecko was born out of a frustration to efficiently manage and track retail inventory and warehouse administration. After quick market uptake of the initial TradeGecko solution and after securing significant early-stage funding, TradeGecko’s adoption grew rapidly amongst online retailers and wholesalers. TradeGecko is now the most intuitive, technology-driven cloud solution serving a global customer base in over 100 countries and making wholesale transactions as easy as shopping on Amazon.

TradeGecko have raised over USD 12M from world-class investors, including; The National Research Foundation of Singapore, Golden Gate Ventures, Wave Maker Labs, Jungle Ventures, 500 Startups and NSI Ventures.

Speaker: Vikrant Rathore

Vikrant Rathore is technology professional and an entrepreneur at heart with interest in Startups and Innovative Technology. With over 20 years of working experience in Asia, USA and Europe, at present working on his own Startup Komerco which is his attempt to organize global product information for multi-channel commerce. In this endeavor leveraging Python and its excellent libraries. Previously in China while working for arvato systems (part of Bertelsmann, one of the largest media and services group in Europe), he helped many multi-nationals for digital transformation and direct to consumer strategy. He also worked with Bayer in APAC region to launch their sales force effectiveness and customer relationship management program targeting healthcare professionals like doctors, nurses and hospitals. In his current work whenever necessary he leverages machine and deep learning to make decisions.

How do I know if the price or rent of house in Singapore is reasonable?

I recently moved to a new home. While looking for a home I checked propertyguru.com and 99.co, two most common place to look for buy/sell or rent property in Singapore. But while looking at them I wanted to see if the asking price is in-line with the actual value of the house or not. As URA (Urban Renewal Authority) in Singapore compiles the property transaction data (available as realis paid subscription or free with limited information). Based on this data I thought of writing python prgram to see if can leverage machine learning or deep learning to to train linear regression model using URA data and predict the price based on location and size of the house and compare it with asking price. In this attempt to write the program I trained linear regression model using various algorithms like Elastic Net, Random Forest and linear regression with single layer and multi-layer neural network using tensorflow. Later compared them and then used the model to predict unseen data. In this talk I will walk you through the journey of how I tried doing step by step using jupyter notebook, pandas, numpy, scipy, tensorflow, keras, matplotlib. You will see the challenges of handling categorical data for linear regression which prefer numerical data and some of the ways to avoid over-fitting or under-fitting. Consider it like a primer on machine learning for house price/rental prediction for Singapore property transactions.
