ThoughtWorks is sponsoring the drinks for this event. They also kindly offered to sponsor some food but we have respectfully declined and decided to go for drinks only at this event to keep time and focus on the content. So grab a quick bite on the way over if you need to. Looking very much forward to seeing new and well known people at this event. Remember all are welcome!

As we are moving towards smaller units of applications or microservices containers are the most popular method to wrap and deploy the applications. The applications will need to be distributed and highly available, but what options do we have to solve this issue? In this talk, we will look at how to distribute our containerised applications. Not only on the orchestration layer, we will also look at secure communications on the networking layer and persistent data stores.

About Dr Jacob Greenshpan

UX strategic design, lecturing around the world and innovation — these are what I do. I design creative user interface and am honoured to be a member of the advisory board for the Google Launchpad accelerator for startups.

I have a Ph.D. in cognitive psychology and user interface design. Building innovative, top-of-the-line UX solutions and applications has been my passion for the last 20+ years. Before becoming an independent consultant, I co-founded two companies: UI Ltd. (which is the largest company in Israel for UX design) and Applied Cognitive Engineering, Ltd. (ACE) for cognitive training.

In addition to working as strategic UX consultant, I coordinate the UX activity for Google’s Launchpad program, an acceleration program for startups. I have created UX expert communities for helping startups in Berlin, Paris, Barcelona, Bangalore, Rio de Janeiro, Jakarta, Mexico City and many more places. I have had the honour of meeting over 700 startups around the world and helping them turn their dreams into reality.

Abstract

Spring 5 is almost here! One of the most exciting introductions in this release is support for reactive programming, building on the Pivotal Reactor project to support message-driven, elastic, resilient and responsive services. Spring 5 integrates an MVC-like component model adapted to support reactive processing and a new type of web endpoint, functional reactive endpoints.

In this talk, we'll look at the net-new Netty-based web runtime, how existing Servlet code can run on the new world, and how to integrate it with existing Spring-stack technologies.

About Josh Long

Josh is the Spring Developer Advocate at Pivotal. Josh is a Java Champion, author of 5 books (including O’Reilly’s upcoming Cloud Native Java: Designing Resilient Systems with Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, and Cloud Foundry) and 3 best-selling video trainings (including Building Microservices with Spring Boot Livelessons with Spring Boot co-founder Phil Webb), and an open-source contributor (Spring Boot, Spring Integration, Spring Cloud, Activiti and Vaadin)
