Apache Beam is a unified programming model for implementing batch and streaming data pipelines that run on any distributed processing back-ends. It is particularly useful for Embarrassingly Parallel data processing tasks as well as for ETL tasks and pure data integration. This talk will cover the fundamentals of stream processing with the Beam model as well look at examples to illustrate it's use. The Python SDK of Apache Beam enables the Python data science community to use existing tools and software with Apache Beam to leverage its unified model for batch and streaming, to write data processing pipelines that can run on distributed processing back-ends like Apache Spark, Apache Flink, etc. https://beam.apache.org/

Have you ever felt that writing tests are merely a ritual to increase the code coverage without gaining any significant value from them? Do you think that your tests don't make you confident enough with your codes?

Let's hear what I've got to say about them! Whether you're an experienced developer in testing or never write any test code, I believe you would gain something from this talk.

About the speaker

I'm Zain Fathoni (https://www.zainfathoni.com/), a Senior Software Engineer at Ninja Van (https://www.ninjavan.co/en-sg/).

GraphQL is a query language for your API. There are a lot of benefits gained if you using it. For my point of view, the best benefit of GraphQL is not that we can reduce number of requests or prevent overfetching. The best feature of GraphQL is schema which allows developers, tools to work together seamlessly. I will show my usage of schema including Apollo plugin for your vscode, Type generate from your schema, automatic reviewing schema changes using GraphQL Inspector

About the speaker

Making the state of your react apps immutable has several upsides (easier to optimize rendering with shouldComponentUpdate for eg). Immutable.js (by Facebook) was the first stab at the problem. However there are a few problems:

- lack of strict typing
- awkward apis

Immer.js one of the few library that has done it right, even earning the high praise of React maintainer https://twitter.com/sebmarkbage/status/1032684851063705600
In this talk, I plan to explain how using immer.js can leads to better code and increase your productivity in a typical React app.

About the speaker

My name is Minh Pham. I am an enterprise engineer from Facebook. Most of the stuffs I built are internal apps that helps with the logistic side of our business. I am a full stack developer but not long ago I spent all of my time in React land.

In Spark 3.0 releases, all the built-in file source connectors [including Parquet, ORC, JSON, Avro, CSV, Text] are re-implemented using the new data source API V2. We will give a technical overview of how Spark reads and writes these file formats based on the user-specified data layouts. Also, a mechanism for performing Dynamic Partition Pruning at runtime by reusing the dimension table broadcast results in hash joins and that shows significant improvements for most TPCDS queries will be presented.
